Preliminary design on plate fin recuperator with counter flow for RGTT200K

Description

High Temperature Gas cooled Reactor with 200 MWth of power and cogeneration utility (RGTT200K) is one kind of Generation-IV reactors which is designed for cogeneration uses, i.e. hydrogen production, electrical generation and desalination. RGTT200K uses helium gas as coolant with inlet temperature around 620 °C and outlet temperature about 950 °C circulated at 107,258 kg/sec with initial pressure at 5 MPa. To keep material integrity of RGTT200K structure, reciprocator performance of RGTT200K must be stable. Main function of the reciprocator are to reduce output temperature coolant from turbine and transfer the heat to output temperature coolant from compressor. In this research, it has been analyzed reciprocator performance by using ChemCAD code as simulator and geometrical dimensions of reciprocator were calculated by additional FORTRAN code. The purpose of this research is to perform preliminary design analysis of counter flow plate fin reciprocator, which will be implemented in RGTT200K. The calculation analysis result show the higher value of reciprocator effectiveness, will give higher capability of heat transfer of coolant from turbine to coolant from compressor. Therefore when the coolant enter reactor core, its temperature become around 620 °C, we need 0.88 of effectiveness. So temperature difference between inlet and outlet of reactor core not so high and stable, therefore stress of material structure inside reactor core is avoided. (author)
