Unusual properties of particle events associated with solar flare gamma ray events

  • 1. Chicago Univ., IL (USA). Enrico Fermi Inst.

Description

We have examined 17 particle events observed by the University of Chicago electron detector on the ISEE-3 spacecraft during a period in 1980 when the SMM spacecraft was also active. The events associated with solar gamma ray bursts show an unusually high electron (6-11 MeV) to proton (25-44 MeV) ratio compared to the same ratio in other events with no reported gamma ray detection
