The size of the electric power surplus

It is argued, that Sweden keeps artificially low prices on electricity due to enormous power generating overcapacity of almost 50 percent. With realistic energy planning Sweden would not need any nuclear reactors at all, and the economic loss to the country due to the overcapacity amounts to about 10 billion SEK (about 1.4 billion dollars) per year at present. No new power production capacity is needed before 2005 even if the phaseout of the 12 Swedish power reactors is performed according to the plans. (L.E.)
