57Fe Moessbauer effect evidence for magnetostriction in UFe2

  • 1. Rutgers--the State Univ., New Brunswick, NJ (USA). School of Chemistry

Description

Temperature dependent 57Fe Moessbauer experiments on UFe2 have shown that above Tsub(c) (158 K) the logarithm of the recoil-free fraction is a linear function of temperature, with thetasub(M) = 325 K. Below Tsub(c) there is a non-linear increase in f which is interpreted in terms of a reduction in the mean square amplitude of the iron atom motion associated with magnetostriction of the unit cell.
