Optimizations of Teflon embedded CaSO4: Dy based TLD for environmental monitoring applications

  • 1. Environmental Monitoring and Assessment Section, Health, Safety and Environment Group, Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Mumbai (India)

Description

In India environmental gamma radiation monitoring, using TLDs is being carried out since last four decades on regular basis. This study discusses the optimization of CaSO4: Dy phosphor for its use in large scale environmental monitoring programme. Investigations are (have been carried out) made to determine optimum thickness of Teflon disc and doping concentration. Teflon disc with 0.8 mm thick was found to be the optimum thickness for highest sensitivity with linear dose response. Some of the applications in selected area of normal background in the country are presented in this paper. (author)
