Growth of superconducting Bi2Sr2Ca1Cu2Ox single crystals

  • 1. Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Bombay (India). Technical Physics and Prototype Engineering Div.

Description

The addition of Li2O to the starting material used for the single crystal growth of Bi2Sr2Ca1Cu2Ox has been investigated in order to improve the phase purity and the size of the grown crystals. A significant improvement is observed in the transition temperature and a very small intercept of the extrapolated linear part of the R versus T plot in the normal state is observed for the crystals, which suggest the growth of high phase purity crystals. XRD measurements also support these results. Crystals up to the sizes 7mm x 7mm x 1mm have been grown by addition of lithium oxide. (author). 7 refs., 2 figs
