Resonance Ionization Spectroscopy has entered the arsenal of main experimental techniques which are used nowadays in nuclear physics. The principle of RIS, experimental efforts in studying radioactive nuclei and a few examples of physical results are presented. Some new versions of RIS are shortly discussed
