Safety and verification concept for a final repository in shallow salt formations. Results of the KOSINA project

Description

The KOSINA project was aimed to develop a site independent technical concept for a heat final repository for heat generating wastes in shallow salt formations and to study the technical feasibility and safety. The results are supposed to compare final disposal in different geological formations in the frame of site selection in Germany. The study includes the following issues: relevant presumptions and safety requirements from the Federal Ministry for Environment (BMU) in the frame of the verification concept, fundamentals of the concept, procedure for site selection with respect to radionuclide retention efficiency of the geologic formation in the verification period, inherent uncertainty handling.
