Single crystals of tetra- and hexaborides of lanthanides and actinides: preparation, crystal shape and microhardness anisotropy

Description
The problem on simultaneous crystallization in a single experiment of Y tetra- and hexaborides monocrystals, lanthanides and actinides is considered for the first time. Simultaneous crystallization of the compounds pairs: YB4 and YB6, SmB4 and SmB6, GdB4 and GdB6, TbB4 and TbB6, YbB4 and YbB6, ThB4 and ThB6 is established. Shapes of these monocrystals growth are described. Results on measuring their microhardness reticular and polar anisotropy are presented. 8 refs.; 3 figs.; 4 tabs
