Description

The reaction products for the reactions Gd (α, pxn), and Dy (α,3 pxn) are Terbium isotopes. This election is based on the fact that some Terbium isotopes have applications as radioactivity tracers, e.g: in optimization of dredging works, in studies of solvent extraction kinetics, in radiolabelling of monoclonal antibodies for cancer diagnosis and therapy, etc. Cumulative cross sections or Formation cross sections for the production of (161-x)Tb (x=1 a 8) were determined experimentally, using stacked foils method and gamma spectroscopy with intrinsic Ge detector. Irradiations were carried out on the external beam of the isochronous cyclotron in Karlsruhe (Germany) with α particles of approximately 90 MeV. Cumulative cross sections or Formation cross sections for the Terbium, Gadolinium and Dysprosium targets which produced the same reaction products are compared. Graphics for the production of 153 Tb, 155 Tb,156(m1+m2+g)158(m+g) Tb,160 Tb and 161 Tb are included. Theoretic calculations are tried with a model which take in account equilibrium and pre-equilibrium mechanisms (INCLUSIVE and EXCLUSIVE INDEX MODEL) by means of COMPLEX code. (author)
