In January 1978 the International Commission for Radiological Protection (ICRP) adopted new recommendations for ionizing radiation protection issued as publication ICRP No. 26. The content of the individual chapters of the recommendations is outlined and the contribution to the protection of persons from ionizing radiation evaluated. (J.B.)
