Characterization of nanocrystaline iron complexes by Moessbauer spectrometry In our work we focused on characterization of nanocrystalline iron complexes in biological tissues obtained from bullock spleen. 57Fe Moessbauer spectrometry in transmission mode was applied as a principal investigation tool. Absorption spectra were recorded directly from lyophilized spleen tissues and tissue embedded in a paraffin block. Moessbauer measurements were performed at room temperature (∼300 K) and at the temperature of 4.2 K. Moessbauer spectra performed at room temperature indicate a presence of very small non-magnetic or superparamagnetic particles, whereas low-temperature Moessbauer measurements demonstrate significant contribution of sextets that confirmed occurrence of blocked magnetic moments of iron-containing particles. The spectral parameters of individual components confirm the presence of various mineral forms of iron. (authors)
