Description

Neutron yield from deuterium clusters irradiated by short intense laser pulse (12 T W 50 f s) is studied using two-dimensional particle-in-cell simulation. strong effect of the cluster size and packing fraction on the neutron yield is found . the neutron yield increases from 2.5X105 particle per shot for the cluster size of 8 nm to 3.2x108 for 64 nm cluster. the detailed energy distributions of ions, electrons and laser field are calculated . furthermore, the effect of shock wave on neutron burst with the cluster diameter of 100 to 200 nm is discussed
