Description

Most people spend time indoors, where levels of harmful pollutants are often much higher than staying at home. Radon (222Rn) and Thoron (220Rn) are radioactive pollutants. These radioisotopes are major source of ionizing radiation. Radon (222Rn) belongs to the group of noble and radioactive gases. Long-term exposure to radon can increase the risk of lung cancer. To determine the level of air contamination of radon (222Rn) and thoron (220Rn), an online radiation contamination monitoring system is needed so that it can be monitored at any time before workers enter the workspace. In addition, the online system are also for determining the impact of the air ventilation system on the level of radon and thoron concentrations that contribute to the effective dose for workers. The tool used in measuring radon is RAD7. RAD7 is integrated into the online radiation monitoring system at the Radioactive Waste Installation (RWI) and the Transfer Channel-Interim Storage for Spent Fuel (KHIPSB3). The result of the integration was obtained in accordance with manual measurements. Radon measurement results show A - Radon Sniffier Mode Counts (Po-218) 60 %, B - Thoron 1 Windows (Po-216) 40 %, C - Radon Counts (Po-214) 0 %, D - Thoron 2 Windows (Po -212) 0 %, radon concentration 96 ± 19 Bq/m3. The result of measurements in the air shows that the concentration of radon in the office space at PTLR is below 300 Bq/m3, so it is still safe to work. (author)
