The original mission of the United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA) was to pioneer the development of atomic energy in this country. This paper examines the past, present and future activities of UKAEA, focusing not on the technical but on the public perception and public relations issues arising from them. What lessons can be learnt from the successes and mistakes of the past? (author)
