Description
The research project aims at the induction of mutations for resistance to Xanthomonas phaseoli (common blight) and to golden mosaic virus. With regard to blight, less susceptible plants were selected in M2 and M3. They will be evaluated further. A mutant TMD1, resistant to golden mosaic virus is now used in crossbreeding. Results are somewhat discouraging. New mutation-induction experiments have been initiated to detect other mutants that might help to solve this urgent problem of bean cultivation in Latin America.
