Description
Metal ions diffusion through polymeric matrix: A TXRF study: This work proposes the use of X ray fluorescence with total reflection geometry to explore the metal ions transport in aqueous hydrophilic polymer solutions. It is centred in the study of the influence of polymer concentration on ions diffusion. This subject is relevant to various and diverse applications, such as drug controlled release, microbiologic corrosion protection and enhanced oil recovery. Results are discussed according to different physical models for solute diffusion in polymer solutions. Total reflection by synchrotron radiation: Trace determination in hydrogels: In this work, SRTXRF was investigated in order to prove its effectiveness for determining impurities in high viscosity polymer solutions. Polymeric solutions of scleroglucan, guar gum, galactomanan, glucomanan, metilcellulose, gelatine and starch were analyzed. Sample quantification was performed with an appropriate internal standard and by a simple calibration procedure with a multielemental standard solution. Trace mercury determination by trapping complexation: application in advanced oxidation technologies: Total Reflection X ray Fluorescence (TXRF) is a proved instrumental analytical tool for the determination of trace elements. In this work, use of TXRF for Hg determination is investigated. Because of volatilization of several mercury forms, a procedure to capture these volatile species in liquid samples by using different complexing agents is proposed. Ammonium pyrrolidinedithiocarbamate (APDC), ethylenediaminetetracetic acid (EDTA) and oxalic acid were assayed for trapping the analyte into the solution during the preparation of the sample and onto the reflector during TXRF measurements. TXRF is a valuable tool to follow the extent of the HP reaction, by determining non-transformed Hg in the remaining solution
