DC power source and GPIB

Description

The development of the DC power source for exciting beam line electromagnets in the beam channel is reported. The purpose of the research and development is to incorporate a GPIB of IEEE-488 standard in the DC power source, and to give the functions of the operation, monitoring, and the check and report of abnormality of the DC power source to its microcomputer. This DC power source with the GPIB interface was adopted in the construction of K6 beam line which was completed in the spring of 1992, and has been operated without any trouble. As the features, the wiring for remote control became one coaxial cable, accordingly the cost, time and man power for the construction of this part of beam line became the minimum. The burden of the line controller was reduced by this arrangement, and the labor saving in maintenance was attained. As for the DC power source, the power output is very large, the size is very small, it is controlled by a 12-phase thyristor, and is direct water-cooled type and highly stable. The specifications are shown. About 130 DC power sources of this type are arranged in 12 beam lines. The circuit substrate of the GPIB interface is described. The operation of the DC power source by the line controller, the command for operating the DC power source, and the rationalization in the construction of the control system of K6 beam line are reported.
