Determination of nuclear charge radii changes of Gd from optical isotope shift

Description
Mean-square nuclear charge radii changes Δ in Gd nuclei are obtained investigating isotope shifts (IS) for 15 optical transitions starting from the ground a9DJ0 multiplet of GdI. IS have been measured with high resolution laser-atomic beam spectroscopy in an experiment described elsewhere. Analysing the IS values the nuclear charge radii changes are calculated using interaction and crossed-second-order effects. The data obtained for 'DELTA' are compared with experimental values obtained by other authors. The results are discussed quantitatively and qualitatively in connection with the 'DELTA' dependence on the neutron number. 4 tabs., 17 refs
