On the stability of Saturn rings
Description
The stability of Saturn rings is investigated taking into account mutual gravitational scattering of the particles. Large particles are shown to have random velocities and to be diffusively unstable when their optical depth tau > or approximately (1-2)x10-2; this leads to formation of narrow rings with the width of the order of ten times the thickness of the disk. Small particles are unstable when tau > or approximately 1
