Availability of uranium and plutionium for LWR type reactors, HCR reactors and fast breeder reactors

Description
The strategy-reflections concerning uranium- and plutonium availability for various reactor systems allow the following conclusions: the extension of nuclear power station capacity on LWR-basis only could result in an undesired and high consumption of natural unranium which according to requirement-estimations would be of 9-14% of the estimated uranium resources by 2050 (western part of the world). A complete changeover to Fast Breeder Reactors would reduce to zero the consumption of natural uranium between 2030 and 2050 according to requirement estimations. Starting to use the HCR in 1995 in addition to Light Water Reactors and Fast Breeder Reactors would already mean a considerable reduction of the natural uranium consumption (compared with the mere LWR-strategy). Die Strategie-Ueberlegungen zur Uran- und Plutoniumverfuegbarkeit fuer verschiedenene Reaktorsysteme erlauben folgende Schlussfolgerungen: Ein Ausbau der KKW-Kapazitaet auf ausschliesslich LWR-Basis wuerde zu unerwuenscht hohem Natururanverbrauch fuehren, der je nach den Bedarfsannahmen bis zum Jahr 2050 zwischen 9-14% der geschaetzten Uranreserven (westliche Welt) betraegt. Ein vollstaendiger Uebergang auf SBR's wuerde den Natururanverbrauch je nach Bedarfsannahme zwischen den Jahren 2030 und 2050 auf Null absenken. Eine Einfuehrung des HCR im Jahr 1995 in Symbiose mit LWR- und SBR-Anlagen bewirkt bereits signifikante Einsparungen im Natururanverbrauch (im Vergleich zur reinen LWR-Strategie).
