Role of nuclear-matter polarization in inelastic interactions of pions and nucleons with nuclei

Description

It is proposed to describe nuclear reactions induced by pions and nucleons of intermediate energies by a procedure which is based on the solution of equations that are a quasiclassical approximation to the Dyson equations for the single-particle Green functions. It is shown that this approach allows the analysis of the effect of the polarization of the nuclear matter on the propagation of a fast particle in a nucleus. A comparison of the calculations with experiment shows that the proposed approach allows us to account for both the experimental data on inelastic pion scattering by nuclei, including the doubly differential distributions, and the process of pion production on nuclei by intermediate-energy protons
