Development of safety analysis methodology for reactivity insertion accidents using modified RETRAN code

  • 1. Korea Electric Power Research Inst., Yusung, Daejeon (Korea, Republic of)

Description

As the required analysis field expanded to be wider and complicated, it faces up some difficulties due to the strict analysis scopes and confined functions of vendor code systems used in Korea industries. To overcome it, KEPRI develop the in-house safety analysis methodology based on the available exquisite codes. For the development, the RETRAN code was modified and coupled to compensate for the lacks of capabilities. The analysis methodology was developed following the safety analysis guidelines cited by the KINS, EPRI, and vendors. To estimate the feasibility of the methodology and code system, some reactivity insertion accidents were analyzed and compared with the results mentioned in the final safety analysis report of the plant or those given by other code systems.
