Perturbative QCD prediction for the ratio Rτ in τ-lepton decays

Description
Using a new corrected value for R=σ(e+e-→hadrons)/σ(e+e-→μ+μ-) to order αs3 we calculate Rτ=Γ(τ→hadrons)/Γ(τ→e bar νν) to order αs3. Our result is Rτ=3.97-0.4+2.1. The agreement with the experimental value Rτ=3.65(13) is excellent. If we assume agreement between theory and experiment we may obtain an accurate value for the strong-interaction coupling at Mτ. Our result is αs(Mτ)=0.34-0.02+0.04
