Effect of a transverse magnetic field on the development of large-scale hydrodynamic perturbations in a tube
Creators
Description
This paper studies the effect of a magnetic field on the distribution of hydrodynamic perturbations at large distances from their source. The fluctuation structure of the flow was investigated using the cross-correlation functions by recording the fluctuations of the scalar potential of the electromagnetic field induced during the motion of the liquid. The relationship between correlation functions of conduction transducer signals and flow structure are discussed. A model is presented and for the investigation the authors chose the flow in a tube with large-scale hydrodynamic perturbations appearing during transverse flow past a cylinder. The experiment was conducted on a mercury MHD test bench. A schematic diagram of the investigated model is shown and a scheme of symmetric and asymmetric arrangement of the electrodes of conduction transducers in the measurement section is given. It is shown that the increase of the MGD interaction parameter creates conditions favorable for the development of large-scale structures that are highly correlated among themselves
