Homogeneous poisoning of EL.3 by gadolinium sulphate
Description
As it appeared necessary to poison on a short term and in a homogeneous way the core of the EL.3 reactor with a soluble poison, this report defines the compensation anti-reactivity at each cycle beginning by the soluble poison, as well as the purification mode corresponding to the pile possibilities such that the bar movement is reduced at a minimum, and the bars do not go down under a mark which would be embarrassing for the experimenters. In a first part, the authors explain the choice of the gadolinium sulphate for chemical, neutron-based, nuclear, and safety considerations. In a second part, they present the implemented means for poisoning, and the positive results of the performed tests
Abstract (French)
En debut de cycle, afin de mieux prevoir les emplacements des cellules experimentales, pour s'affranchir des distorsions de flux engendrees par les barres de compensation controlant une grande reactivite et se trouvant, de ce fait, dans la region mediane du coeur avant la saturation de l'effet xenon et la montee en temperature, enfin, pour gagner du temps a chaque demarrage, il est apparu necessaire d'empoisonner a court terme et de facon homogene, le coeur d'EL.3 avec un poison soluble. Le present rapport indique l'antireactivite a compenser a chaque debut de cycle par le poison soluble, ainsi que le mode d'epuration correspondant aux possibilites de la pile pour que le mouvement des barres soit reduit au minimum, et que ces dernieres ne descendent pas au-dessous d'une cote genante pour les experimentateurs. Dans une premiere partie il justifie le choix du sulfate de gadolinium par des considerations chimiques, neutroniques, nucleaires et de securite. Dans une deuxieme partie il presente les moyens mis en oeuvre pour l'empoisonnement et les resultats positifs des essais effectues. (auteurs)Files
