Description
The photon is described as a collective excitation of a fermion field. The basic short range self-interactions of this field are assumed to be gauge invariant and nonlocal. By breaking this symmetry, a one- fermion Green function of the Dirac type can be found. Consequently, a collective excitation of zero mass, that is, the photon, appears as a pole of the two-fermion Green function. Thus the usual electron and photon field theory can be qualitatively reconstructed.
