Neutron polarization on passing through a magnetized doubly bent neutron guide

  • 1. Moskovskij Inzhenerno-Fizicheskij Inst. (USSR)

Description

A method is described for obtaining polarized neutrons by passing through a magnetized doubly bent neutron guide made of ferromagnetic alloy 50H (50% Fe - 50% Ni). The results show that such a neutron guide efficiently polarizes neutrons in a certain wavelength range not withstanding the fact that the asub(m) magnetic scattering amplitude is several times smaller than the asub(n) nuclear amplitude. Three ranges are clearly seen: lambda < 12,6 A, where the mean degree of polarization is 0, 85 +- 0,04; 12,6 A < lambda < 13,0 A, which is the transition range; lambda 13,0 A where the mean degree of polarization is 0,22 +-0, 03
