Study of radiative capture gamma-rays arising from neutron interactions with iron barriers

Description

This work represents the measured data of the spatial and angular energy distributions of radiative capture ν-rays produced from the interactions of reactor neutrons with iron barriers of different thicknesses. The measurements were performed, at different angle of neutron incidence and emission of γ-rays, using a ν-spectrometer with stilbene scintillator. The measurements show that for barrier's thickness≥5 cm, the increase of the angle of neutron incidence (to 700) decreases the value of the capture ν-ray flux by 1.2--3 times the values obtained when the angle of incidence is 00. The data also show that the increase in the angle of emission, for barriers ≥5 cm, by 500--700 decrease the capture ν-ray flux respectively by ∼2--3 times. The empirical formula describes the present measurements with adequate accuracy (10--15%), is also given
