Description
Electricity generation in Germany is based on three pillars: Lignite, hard coal, and nuclear power. Lignite and nuclear power are used mainly in baseload operation, while hard coal is employed preferably in the medium load regime. In 1995, these three sources of primary energy generated more than 80% of the gross electricity produced. The conversion technologies required for this purpose have attained a level of maturity allowing them to compete with each other in economic terms. However, the different amounts of usable energy in the sources of primary energy for different power plants give rise to marked differences in the flows of matter needed to make available the same amounts of electricity. The article quantifies these differences on the basis of consumption data of 1995. This approach is connected with a look at the flows of activity accompanying the different flows of matter. (orig.)
Abstract (German)
In Deutschland stuetzt sich die Elektrizitaetserzeugung auf drei Saeulen ab: Braunkohle, Steinkohle und Kernenergie. Braunkohle und Kernenergie werden vorwiegend im Grundlastbetrieb eingesetzt, Steinkohle bevorzugt im Mittellastbereich. 1995 sind aus diesen drei Primaerenergietraegern ueber 80% der elektrischen Bruttoarbeit erzeugt worden. Die entsprechenden Umwandlungstechniken sind heute so ausgereift, dass sie oekonomisch miteinander konkurrieren koennen. In den einzelnen Kraftwerken ergeben sich aber aufgrund der unterschiedlichen nutzbaren Energiemengen der Primaerenergietraeger deutliche Unterschiede bei den Stoffstroemen, um die gleiche Elektrizitaetsmenge bereitzustellen. Der Beitrag beschaeftigt sich mit der Quantifizierung dieser Unterschiede anhand von Verbrauchsdaten aus dem Jahr 1995. Damit verbunden wird ein Blick auf die Aktivitaetsstroeme, die die einzelnen Stoffstroeme begleiten. (orig.)Additional details
