Description
Neutrino experiment facility produces the neutrino beam for the experiment on the long baseline neutrino oscillation between Tokai and Kamioka, called T2K. The neutrino intensity will be 100 times stronger than that in K2K experiment, being stronger in the world. The neutrino beam is generated through decays of pions. Pions from the target irradiated by the proton beam are focused by so-called electromagnetic horn and are injected in a decay volume. Most pions decay into myu-neutrinos and myuons in the decay volume. Particle other than the neutrino are absorbed by a beam dump at the end of the decay volume. A feature of this facility is that superconducting magnets of combined-function type are employed in the proton beam transport. (K.Y.)
