Impact broadening of very high Rb Rydberg levels by Xe
Description
With an improved experimental set-up we have studied the broadening of Rb Rydberg levels by xenon up to principal quantum numbers as high as napprox.=100 by means of Doppler-free two-photon spectroscopy and the thermionic detection technique. The inelastic part of the collision cross section tends to decrese slowly with n in the range 50<=n<=100 in agreement with theoretical predictions. (orig.)
