Nuclear fuel cycle insurance requirements
Description
Although this paper is directed to the Health Physicist whose activities are in direct support of a licensed nuclear facility that requires insurance coverage through the Nuclear Pools, the concepts presented may be related to operations covered under the conventional insurance market. A review of the domestic Nuclear Insurance Pools is presented in order to understand how Nuclear Liability and Nuclear Property coverage is obtained and applied. Support Activities such as environmental surveys, safety surveys, radiation exposure records and over-all plant knowledge are presented from the view point of loss prevention and the relationship to the nuclear insurance inspection program. The projected increase in the Nuclear Industry will place a greater emphasis on the Health Physicist and his emphasis on radiation safety. The extent of dollar losses due to radiation and contamination are directly related to the participation of the Health Physicist.
