Description
The chemical decontamination method using ozone, the T-OZON process, was applied to the primary system of BWR. The decontamination was carried out in Hamaoka NPS unit 3 for the 11th periodical outage in October 2001. Object sections were PLR, reactor water clean up (RWCU), residual heat removal (RHR) system. Total area of decontamination was about 260m2 including stainless steel and carbon steel area. The reduction step and the oxidation step were carried out alternately. As a result, average decontamination factors of 16 for the stainless steel section and 7 for the carbon steel section were obtained, respectively. And the amount of secondary waste was less than that in the case of using the conventional decontamination method. The first application of the T-OZON process to the BWR primary system was successful and it was effective for reducing radiation dose for successive work. (author)
