Description

The EXAFS analysis at the thulium L3 edge has been applied to ZnS:Tm3+ powders. EXAFS oscillations were observed only for the higher dopant initial concentration: 1.2% and attributed to the oxysulfide (TmO)2S. This phase has not been detected in the fluorescence spectra. It is thus a second compound embedded in ZnS appearing during the elaboration process. The emission spectrum of the same ZnS:Tm3+(1.2%) powder has been separated into two components. The first one is attributed to substitutional TM on Zn sites. On the contrary the second one, which superposes with the vibronic sidebands of the first spectrum, is clearly due to an impurity center
