Use of PSA methods for improving operational safety of VVER type nuclear units
Description
The approach to safety of VVER-type nuclear units has been based on conventional deterministic technique and on well-proved defense-in-depth principle. Currently probabilistic safety assessment of nuclear units of this type under construction and operation in Hungary was initiated to improve their operational safety. The article summarizes results gained from small LOCA event sequence quantification carried out presently and gives a state-of-the-art survey of methods used for the analysis. (orig.)
