Description

Radiation-chemical yields of formation of 5-hydroxydihydrouracil and uracil and decomposition of polyuridylic acid [poly(U)] during its radiolysis in aqueous solutions saturated with N2O equal 0.4, 3.1 and 4.4 molecule/100 eV respectively. Measurement of the yield of 5-hydroxydihydrouracil during radiolysis of poly (U) in the presence of cysteamine has indicated that only 20% of OH radicals attacking poly (U) give rise to formation of C(5)-OH-adducts of uracil. The assumption is made that as a result of OH reaction with poly (U) in addition to the known C(5)-OH- and H-adducts of uracil and radicals on ribose part of poly (U) molecule the reducing radicals, which are not known until now, are formed
