New fossil fuel energy technology in the USA

  • 1. Office for Science and Technology, Royal Netherlands Embassy, Washington, DC (United States)

Description

An overview is given of the American governmental programmes to improve the technology to generate energy by means of fossil fuels (natural gas, oil and coal). It appears that budgets for energy technology are rising again, partly used for the improvement of existing power plants and for the marketing and commercialization of new technology, e.g. advanced gas turbines and fuel cell technology for electricity production. In particular, attention is paid to the hybrid fuel cell gas turbine and cogeneration systems. The contents of the Vision-21 programme of the US Department of Energy is summarized. Vision 21 must form the basis of the future (after 2015) energy supply in the USA. 6 ref
