Final report via vibration measurements on the Helix heat exchanger at the KFA-Jülich IRB
Description
Automatic translation: Flow-induced vibrations of pipes in working heat exchangers are frequently observed. The vibrations can lead to neighboring pipes clash. In some cases, vibrations resulted in structural fatigue or to ''fretting'' damage. As a result, the power plants had to be shut down /1, 2/. Heat exchangers in helium-cooled high-temperature reactors operate at high Pressures in the temperature range up to approx. 900 ° C in the primary circuit. At such high temperatures, the strength of the cyclically loaded materials is relative small amount.
Abstract (German)
Strömungserregte Schwingungen von Rohren in arbeitenden Wärmetauschern werden häufig beobachtet. Die Schwingungen können dazu fuhren, daß benachbarte Rohre aneinanderschlagen. In einigen Fällen führten Vibrationen zur Strukturermüdung bzw. zu ''Fretting''-Schäden. Dies hatte zur Folge, daß die Kraftwerke abgeschaltet werden mußten /1, 2/. Wärmetauscher in Helium-gekühlten Hochtemperaturreaktoren arbeiten bei hohen Drücken im Temperaturbereich bis ca. 900°C im Primärkreislauf. Bei derart hohen Temperaturen ist die Festigkeit der zyklisch belasteten Materialien relativ gering.
