Regional cerebral blood flow in cerebral hemorrhage measured with the 133Xe inhalation technique

Description
Measurement of regional cerebral blood flow (rCBF) was performed in 40 patients with hypertensive intracerebral hemorrhage involving the internal capsule and basal ganglia and in 40 normal subjects. The CBF of stroke hemisphere and non-stroke hemisphere in patients was reduced more obviously than hemispheric mean cerebral blood flow in normal subjects of the same age, particularly in stroke hemisphere. The rCBF in cerebral hemorrhage correlated with the clinical severity of illness, localization of hematoma and bleeding volume. The rCBF in cerebral hemorrhage was the least in severe cerebral hemorrhage of the thalamus and large haematomas. Cerebral hemorrhage in the internal capsule and basal ganglia could result in rCBF reduction of cerebellar and brain stem on the contralateral side of the haematomas
