Induced absorption and radioluminescence in glass fiber light guide

Description

Light transmission and luminescence of a glass-fiber light guide in the visible range are measured under pulse and continuous irradiation. Type number and characteristics of produced color centers are determined. Effect of the light guide length and induced absorption value on the luminescence is considered. It is concluded that the glass-fiber light guide has a low radiation strength because the total and long loss of light transmission is observed at the dose of pulse and continuous irradiation more 400 rad and light guide length of 0.5 m. The light guide darkening is conditioned by production of five types of irradiation color centers with the lifetime from parts of second to a week
