Future report of nuclear physics of Japan
Description
This report has been started by the proposal of the Nuclear Physics Committee in 2010. Considering the past progress of RIBF and J-PARC, the future images of ten, twenty and thirty years from now are summed up for eight fields of nuclear physics based on the discussions and contributions of mainly young nuclear physicists in Japan. The report is supposed to be utilized by those physicists themselves. Each working group consists of 10 to 20 scientists not older than forties. Theoretical physicists took part in each group. The first part of this report was written by H. Tamura and T. Nakamura. In the 'Nuclear Physics at Present and in Future' section at the beginning, three issues are discussed under the subtitles of 'Mission of Modern Nuclear Physics', 'Evolution of Materials in Universe and Nuclear Physics' and 'Classification of Nuclear Physics and Fundamental Questions in Each Field'. Numbers of problems are summarized at the end. In the Research Facilities Section, J-PARC and RI Beam Factory are taken up as the examples. For the future facilities, which are the main purpose of this report, guidelines are given for the following eight issues. 1) Physics of Unstable Nuclei, 2) High Precision Nuclear Physics, 3) Hypernuclear Physics and Strangeness Nuclear Physics, 4) Hadron Physics, 5) Physics with High Energy Heavy Ion Collisions, 6) Nucleon Structure Physics, 7) Fundamental Physics by using Nuclear Physics Technique and finally, 8) Computational Nuclear Physics. Each section starts with a few lines of abstract then their recent progress and future prospects are reported. (S. Funahashi)
