An intranuclear cascade model for high energy transport codes
Description
Bertini's cascade model agrees overall with data but presents some deficiencies. No improvement of this code is possible since it stays 'as is'. The results of Cugnot's model are in a good agreement with measurements at high incident energy but this code is at least ten times slower than that of Bertini for heavy target nuclei. In order to correct the main deficiencies of Bertini's model while keeping a moderate running time of the code, we propose a new model which is a compromise between the two approaches. This model includes improvements such as a realistic matter density distribution, and new parametrizations of differential nucleon-nucleon cross sections. This intranuclear cascade model has been included in the high energy transport code used at Bruyeres-le-Chatel to replace the code of Bertini. A comparison between our calculations, experimental data and the results of Bertini's and Cugnon's models is presented
