Nuclear Environmental Protection, Emergency Preparedness and Control Project

To investigate and evaluate the radiation environment around nuclear facilities, the radioactivity analysis of 2000 samples and real-time monitoring of environmental radiation at 11 sites were performed every year. Off-site dose assessment was conducted four times a year, and environmental monitoring results were submitted for the first and second half of the year. Regular inspections of nuclear facilities were reviewed. In order to advance the analysis method and increase the efficiency, a large-capacity environmental sample analysis equipment was developed, and pretreatment technology and equipment were optimized. In nuclear material and technology control, the frequency of IAEA safeguards inspection was 16 times in 2018, 9 times in 2019 and 15 times in 2020. The number of IAEA CA(complementary access) was 5 in 2018, 4 in 2019 and 5 in 2020. The number of nuclear material accounting reports was 105 in 2018, 89 in 2019 and 105 in 2020. The number of DIQ for nuclear facilities at KAERI was 15 in 2018, 9 in 2019 and 14 in 2020. One national regular inspection for 11 nuclear facilities implemented in each year. Export control was implemented. In nuclear preparedness, operation and improvement of radiological emergency plan, Implementation of training and exercise for radiological emergency, Operation and improvement of radiological disaster response facilities and technical support and cooperation of radiological emergency preparedness were implemented. In site risk profile development, there were establishment of screening analysis procedures for internal and external event, development of a research site risk assessment methodology, Development of preliminary full-power PSA model for internal and external events (seismic) at Hanaro facilities, qualitative assessment of low power and shutdown PSA model for Hanaro facilities (screening-out), qualitative assessment of Hanaro spent fuel pool including bounding thermal-hydrauric analysis (screening-out), etc
