Separation of trivalent transplutonium and rare earth elements with the use of solid extractant, POR

Description

Possibility of separation of trivalent transplutonium and rare earth elements (TPE, REE) by means of the extraction-chromatographic method with the use of solid extractant containing isoamyldialkylphosphine oxide (POR) is under consideration. Distribution of curium, americum and some other REE between nitrate aqueous solutions and POR solid extractant is studied under static and dynamic conditions. It is shown that, when introduce diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid to aqueous solution, it is possible to gain rather high coefficients of separation of TPE and REE. The new method of group separation of trivalent TPE and REE under dynamic conditions is suggested. The following separation coefficient were obtained for curium using the column 22 cm high: from cerium - about 500; from neodymium - over 260; from lanthanum - 250; from europium and gadolinium - 14. Possibility of palladium separation from TPE and REE as a separate product is also studied
