Theoretical aspects of the interaction between grain-boundaries and impurities
Description
The interaction between impurity and grain-boundary in solid solution at the equilibrium is described. The different terms of the elastic interaction are first reviewed. The electronic interaction of a heterovalent impurity with a boundary in a crystal of a normal metal is calculated. Pair interactions deduced from pseudopotentials are used to calculate grain-boundary energies, the method being then extended to the calculation of the interaction with an impurity. This interaction is found oscillating and decreases with the distance as r-2. The resulting binding energy is similar to that of the elastic effect for highly misoriented boundaries
Abstract (French)
On decrit dans cet article l'interaction impurete-joint de grains dans une solution solide a l'equilibre. On passe d'abord en revue les differents termes de l'interaction elastique, puis on calcule l'interaction electronique d'une impurete heterovalente avec un joint dans un cristal metallique normal. On utilise des interactions de paires deduites de pseudopotentiels pour calculer d'abord l'energie de joints de grains, la methode etant ensuite etendue au calcul de l'interaction avec une impurete. L'interaction est oscillante et decroit avec la distance comme environ r-2. L'energie de liaison resultante a un ordre de grandeur comparable a celle d'origine elastique pour les joints fortements desorientesAdditional details
