Description
A local dispersion relation for flute-like short wavelength (in comparison with the ion gyroradius) electrostatic drift waves is derived taking into account non-equilibrium impurity radiation losses. Our analysis is based on a hybrid model in which the electron motion is governed by Braginskii's fluid equations, whereas the ions are treated kinetically. An analysis of the dispersion relation exhibits some new unstable spectra. The latter are shown to cause anomalous electron energy flux. The relevance of our investigation to impurity driven turbulence and associated transport in the tokamak edge plasma is pointed out. (orig.)
