Old and new radiation protection aspects in X-ray diagnostics

Description
Radiation protection reasons do not suggest any principal contraindication to the application of ionizing radiation for the purpose of medical examination - not even in the case of pregnancy. However, efforts should be made to prevent excessive X-ray examinations, to reduce qualitatively insufficient examinations to the inevitable minimum and to keep the dose per examination as low as possible. This involves a three-prong approach: 1) Radiological expertise and skill; 2) Careful and accurate diagnosis including verification of indications by the radiologist; 3) methods for minimizing the dose per examination. Abstract (German)
Man muss davon ausgehen, dass es aus Strahlenschutzgruenden ueberhaupt keine grundsaetzliche Kontraindikation gegen die Anwendung ioniosierender Strahlen zu Untersuchungszwecken gibt, auch nicht in der Schwangerschaft. Umsomehr muss aber alles getan werden, um ueberfluessige Roentgenuntersuchungen auszuschalten, qualitativ unzureichende Untersuchungen auf ein unvermeidbares Minimum zu beschraenken und die Dosis pro Untersuchung so klein wie moeglich zu halten. Es handelt sich um 3 Problemkreise: 1. Fachkunde. 2. Sorgfaeltige Indikationsstellung einschliesslich Indikationsueberpruefung durch den Radiologen. 3.
