Description

We present a study of the modification of crystalline electric field energy level scheme of the Van Vleck paramagnet PrNi5 when Pr-ions are substituted by magnetic Nd-ions using point-contact spectroscopy. We have observed two peaks, one 1.5 meV and another at 4 meV, associated with CEF transitions. The peak at 1.5 meV does not appear in PrNi5 compound and is a consequence of the now allowed transition from ground to the first excited level when introducing Nd-ions. (Authors)
