Transuranium

Description

How transuranium came into existence, its sources and to make synthesis of it is briefly dealt with. The applicability of 239Pu in reactors on the ground of nuclear fuel, 238Pu in nuclear medicine and as a heat source, 252Cf and 241Am as neutron sources are discussed, utility of 241Am for preparing pure 238Pu is considered. Physico-technical problems, to synthesizing transuranium and its production in nuclear power plants are presented. Ultimately, disposal of radioactive materials in salt mines and its safety aspects are discussed
